Denmark’s preparations for Tuesday’s decisive World Cup qualifier in Glasgow have been disrupted by a sickness bug affecting key players. Head coach Brian Riemer confirmed that Joachim Andersen and Rasmus Højlund both missed Saturday’s unexpected draw with Belarus due to illness, along with a staff member.
The dropped points mean Scotland can still qualify automatically despite losing 3–2 to Greece. Denmark lead Group C by one point and need only a draw at Hampden Park, while Scotland must win to reach their first World Cup finals since 1998.
Riemer acknowledged concern but said the team is working to stop the illness from spreading. “It’s the season for such things,” he said, adding that the hope is to have “24 men fit for a fight” by kickoff.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke urged supporters to provide strong backing, insisting the players need belief from the stands in such a high-stakes match. “Play with the anticipation of success and not the fear of failure,” he said. “If we get that, I’m pretty sure we can do something special.”
