Manchester City crush Liverpool to close Premier League gap

Manchester City delivered a dominant 3-0 win over Liverpool to move within four points of leaders Arsenal and extend their title challenge.

Despite Erling Haaland missing an early penalty, he opened the scoring with his 19th goal of the season before Nico González’s deflected strike doubled the lead before halftime. Jérémy Doku capped a dazzling performance with a brilliant curling finish for City’s third.

Liverpool had a goal from Virgil van Dijk disallowed for offside and struggled throughout, falling to their fourth straight away defeat — their worst run since 2012.

City, inspired by Doku’s electric display and Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager, looked sharper and more physical, while Liverpool’s hopes of defending their title took a major blow.
