A man carrying weapons was arrested outside President Donald Trump’s golf course in Southern California shortly before the president arrived for a planned visit, according to law enforcement officials.

The arrest took place on August 2 near Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. Authorities said federal agents reported a suspicious individual walking around the property and observing activity connected to security preparations ahead of the president’s visit.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California. Officials said he was taking photos and recording videos near the golf course while appearing to monitor security operations.

Deputies arrested Taele on weapons-related charges after discovering a concealed firearm and prohibited ammunition. Investigators later expanded the case as additional evidence was uncovered.

President Trump traveled to California on Tuesday to attend a Republican National Committee dinner at the golf club. The arrest occurred before his arrival, and security agencies immediately began reviewing whether the incident posed any threat to the president.

Federal law enforcement officials said the investigation remains active. Authorities have not publicly confirmed that the suspect planned to attack the president. However, security agencies are examining the circumstances surrounding the case.

The Secret Service is working alongside federal and local law enforcement agencies as investigators continue to gather evidence. Officials said there was no confirmed threat at the time of the arrest, but they stressed that the investigation is ongoing.

Court records show that Taele pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to several charges. These include three weapons-related offenses connected to the arrest at the golf course.

He also faces a second-degree robbery charge linked to an alleged incident from November 2025. Authorities have not confirmed whether the robbery case is related to the events at the golf course.

A judge ordered Taele to remain in California while the case proceeds. The court also prohibited him from possessing weapons and directed him to stay away from Trump’s golf club.

Bail was set at $250,000, according to court documents.

Federal prosecutors also filed a separate criminal complaint against Taele. The complaint charges him with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle.

Under federal law, the offense carries a maximum prison sentence of ten years if a conviction is secured. Officials said he is expected to appear in federal court in Los Angeles for initial proceedings.

As part of the investigation, detectives assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force executed a search warrant at Taele’s residence on Monday.

Investigators said the search was conducted because of possible security concerns connected to the incident. During the operation, authorities recovered multiple items that are now being examined as evidence.

Law enforcement officials reported finding an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a .45 caliber handgun, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and ammunition.

Investigators also recovered radio signal devices and several notebooks. According to authorities, the notebooks contained statements that investigators considered concerning.

Officials have not released details about the contents of those writings. They said the materials are being reviewed as part of the broader investigation into the suspect’s actions and intentions.

Federal prosecutors praised the cooperation between local and federal agencies. Officials said early intervention helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation from developing further.

Law enforcement leaders noted that identifying suspicious activity before a major public event is an important part of security planning. They said the quick response allowed investigators to act before the president’s scheduled appearance at the golf club.

The FBI, Secret Service, and local authorities continue to work together on the case. Additional charges remain possible depending on what investigators discover during the ongoing review.

Officials emphasized that there is currently no credible threat to nearby communities. However, they said the incident highlights the value of strong coordination among law enforcement agencies and the need for continued vigilance.

Security around current and former national leaders remains a major priority for federal agencies. Events involving presidents often involve extensive planning and monitoring to address possible risks before they develop into larger threats.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
