Gunmen opened fire at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing ten people, including one of the attackers. More than a dozen bystanders suffered injuries during the assault. A Hanukkah event drew thousands to the beach when the attack occurred. Authorities are investigating the motives behind the incident.

New South Wales Police confirmed ten deaths and identified one gunman among the fatalities. Police reported that the other suspected attacker remains in critical condition at a hospital. Witnesses described terrified crowds and dozens of victims lying injured across the sand.

Eyewitnesses said blood covered the beach, and many victims required urgent medical attention. Officers continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Leaders and authorities respond to chaos

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese released a statement on X expressing condolences for victims. He urged the public to follow police guidance and remain cautious. Albanese described the scenes as shocking and distressing, highlighting the efforts of emergency responders.

He confirmed that federal authorities cooperate closely with New South Wales Police. Albanese promised updates as officials verify additional information. He again urged residents and visitors near Bondi Beach to rely on official instructions.

NSW Police posted an urgent alert on X around 7:30 p.m., advising people to seek shelter or avoid the area entirely. Videos on social media captured panicked crowds fleeing as multiple gunshots rang out alongside police sirens.

Investigation and eyewitness accounts reveal violence

Roughly 2,000 people attended the Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, though authorities have not confirmed if the attackers targeted the gathering. Police continue probing all possible motives.

Videos showed officers detaining two suspects on a civilian bridge. Earlier footage reportedly depicted these individuals firing weapons resembling sniper rifles. Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired more than 50 shots at civilians, beach-goers, and vehicles.

Investigators are gathering evidence, reviewing videos, and interviewing witnesses to determine the full scope of the attack.
