Coca-Cola has launched legal action against Vue after the cinema chain replaced it with PepsiCo as its European soft drink supplier. The lawsuit, filed by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Great Britain, seeks to recover alleged unpaid debts following the end of a near 25-year partnership. Vue, which operates more than 220 cinemas across eight countries, switched to PepsiCo last year under a deal running until at least 2030. Vue’s founder Tim Richards criticised the legal move, saying the dispute involved under £100,000 and could have been resolved without lawyers. Vue added the issue has now been settled and the legal action…
Google’s AI Overviews feature most frequently cites YouTube when answering health-related search queries, according to a new study that raises concerns about how medical information is sourced for a tool used by around 2 billion people each month. Researchers at SE Ranking analysed more than 50,000 German-language health queries and found that YouTube accounted for 4.43% of all citations used in AI Overviews, making it the single most cited source. No hospital network, government health body or academic institution came close. The next most cited sites were German public broadcaster NDR.de (3.04%) and the medical reference site Msdmanuals.com (2.08%). The…
Japan is developing the L0 Series, the world’s fastest train, capable of reaching 603.5 km/h. Built by Central Japan Railway Company, the magnetic-levitation train will far exceed current high-speed rail, including China’s Shanghai Maglev and Europe’s fastest services such as the TGV and AGV Italo. The L0 Series is designed for the Chūō Shinkansen line, cutting travel between Tokyo and Nagoya to about 40 minutes, with Tokyo–Osaka eventually taking around one hour. The technology relies on maglev, lifting the train above the track to reduce friction and allow extreme speeds. However, exporting this concept to Europe is unlikely. The system…
A study warns that “manosphere” influencers are convincing healthy young men that normal changes in energy, mood or libido mean they have low testosterone, fuelling unnecessary testing and treatment. Researchers analysed popular posts on TikTok and Instagram, published in Social Science and Medicine, and found testosterone was marketed as essential to being a “real man”. The lead author, from the University of Copenhagen, said influencers often medicalised ordinary experiences to sell tests, supplements or hormones, reinforcing narrow ideas of masculinity. Medical experts stressed that routine testosterone screening in young, symptom-free men is not recommended and can carry risks, including infertility…
Plants growing close together can alert one another to environmental stress, improving their chances of survival. In experiments with thale cress (Arabidopsis thaliana), researchers found that plants grown in crowded conditions coped far better with intense light stress than those grown alone. When exposed to strong light, isolated plants suffered significant damage and showed little change in gene activity. By contrast, crowded plants activated more than 2,000 protective genes within an hour, enabling them to withstand the stress. The findings suggest that a warning signal passed between neighbouring plants, triggering their defensive response. The study identified hydrogen peroxide as the…
Netflix has revised its $82.7bn (£61.5bn) takeover offer for Warner Bros Discovery into an all-cash deal, aiming to speed up shareholder approval and block a rival bid from Paramount Skydance. The offer keeps the valuation at $27.75 per share but removes shares from the structure, giving investors greater certainty and potentially allowing a vote as early as April. Netflix said the WBD board continues to unanimously support the deal. WBD shareholders would also receive shares in a separate global networks business, including CNN and Discovery Channel, which Netflix is not acquiring. Paramount is pursuing a larger $108.4bn hostile takeover and…
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that the United States will participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Winter Games, held every four years, bring together athletes from around the world to showcase talent, foster sportsmanship, and strengthen international relationships. Scientists have developed a simple blood test that can predict how well patients with breast cancer will respond to treatment. The test analyses circulating tumour DNA released into the bloodstream by cancer cells and can indicate treatment success before therapy begins or after just four weeks. Researchers studied blood samples from 167 patients with advanced breast cancer and found that low levels of tumour DNA were strongly linked to better responses and longer periods before the disease progressed. Patients with undetectable levels after four weeks of treatment had particularly positive outcomes. The findings suggest doctors could avoid ineffective treatments and…
Newcastle United dominated possession but lacked creativity in a flat 0-0 draw at Molineux. The visitors failed to turn control into chances and never truly tested José Sá. Wolves stayed compact, defended crosses well, and threatened sporadically on the break. Wolverhampton Wanderers looked organised and resilient under pressure. Eddie Howe admitted quality was missing in the final third. The stalemate stalled Newcastle’s push toward the top five.
