Milo Yiannopoulos was deported to the United Kingdom on Saturday, one day after he was arrested by U.S. immigration authorities in New Orleans. Officials said the removal followed a final immigration order issued earlier this year.
The British commentator was taken into custody at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Friday. According to federal officials, he did not attend a required immigration hearing in July. As a result, an immigration judge issued a final removal order on July 22.
Authorities confirmed that Yiannopoulos was removed from the United States and returned to his home country shortly after his arrest. The case gained attention because of his long history as a public figure known for political activism and controversial statements.
Yiannopoulos became widely recognized during the rise of President Donald Trump’s first political campaigns. He was one of the early public supporters of Trump and often used social media to promote conservative ideas. His outspoken style helped him build a large audience online.
